Southwest Airlines commercial circa 1972

alanzb asked:

Ahhhh, nostalgia. They don’t make them like this anymore - commercials or “flight attendants”. One has to wonder how many takes they had to do until they got the timing right - this was, of course, before CGI ruined everything.

Yeah remember, when pilot’s got paid and treated with respect and when their unions actually had balls?

I still think there was a screen behind her and she is on a soundstage or a small airport. A lady that tiny would get blown all over with a 737-200 flying that low over her. Great commercial

i shouldnt have watched this because it just made me insanely horny

#4 umahuma4 on 06.11.08 at 5:59 pm

look, he corrected his mistake, it was still a southwest airlines employee, so it doesnt make it any different then a flight attendemt. She was still a sleezy slut hooker anyhow.

That being us to another crazy issue. With the airlines bleeding money the way they are, to turn always pax for a clothing issue is just plain foolish.

There you go again name calling. I wonder what names people call you. And even if she did/does dress too provocative who are you or anyone else to judge her or anyone else for that matter. Why don’t you spend less time worrying about what she wearing a worrying/discuss something that actually important. And yes I got one fact wrong, for some reason youre still stuck on that FACT. Someone still told that young woman, a paying customer at that, that her attire was not appropriate.

No, not regardless, nice try, GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT. Your original statement was about a F/A, so you’re not off the hook, and regarding that “wholesome” KAyla, unless you live under a rock…pleaaaazee!! Can we say SKANK!

#8 bryanb16th on 06.20.08 at 6:36 pm

Regardless who said it, it was still a Southwest employee how said her attire was not appropriate. And it’s such an ugly trait to slander and name call people you don’t even know.

get your facts straight, F/As NEVER asked that slut to get off the plane, it was ground personnel after passengers complained

#10 joevc737 on 06.22.08 at 12:40 pm

From what I know, they had to do the scene over many times because she kept flinching.

#11 bryanb16th on 06.24.08 at 4:25 pm

it’s so funny to me that 30 years ago, Southwest’s F/A’s wore mini shirks to hookers boots, yet today they have the nerve to ask passengers to get off the plane or to change into something more appropriate and less revealing. Talk about irony!!

#12 mego73 on 06.27.08 at 1:31 am

Yup. I wonder if they had to do more than one take.

You have to remember that shes at the very end of the runway, and that airplane is higher than you think.

first-class leg-room for a first-class legged lady! I would board with her on any plane, anytime!

#18 mego73 on 07.05.08 at 5:48 am

You might be right. Still have a hard time believing they would put a model/actress in the path of a real airplane :)

#19 gazboat on 07.07.08 at 3:00 am

Look at the stewardess’s shadow…it’s really long so this was shot at an extreme end of the day…looks like early evening to me, where would the plane’s shadow fall???…Agreed…2001 was completed in ‘68 and those beautiful understated effects still convince today x Gaz

NEVER STAY IN THE WAY OF AN AIRCRAFT XD

#21 mego73 on 07.12.08 at 12:16 am

They didn’t have CGI but that may be a front or rear projection process shot (used very convincingly in 2001: A Space Odyssey a few years earlier for the primitive man scenes). In the case of 2001, it was front projection onto a highly reflective screen of glass beads. They might’ve used this for this ad. For instance, I didn’t see any airplane shadow pass over her and I think it couldn’t be done for real and maintain safety for the actress and crew.

Probably most of us original employees have a lot of physical problems now. Lifting 50-60lb bags and throwing them on the conveyer was not the best for our backs and then we wore 3 in. lace up boots, not the best, but when you are 22, who cares? I am now having lots of aches and pains, but I am almost 60 yrs old now, so that is to be expected. But, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Those were the best years of my young life, back and neck problems or not!

#23 pattyalston on 07.15.08 at 7:11 am

No, it was no Raquel Welch look alike ads. But the point is that we started that airline. All of these people who are talking trash were not there. We were and we were all hot. That was he premise of the airline, hot girls and hot pants. We were young and we did our thing. It was a great experience for a 22 year old girl who started with nothing. All of my character was created in those early years and it taught me to be the person I am now. We Rocked….. Thanks for the nice comment……

Patty-

Thank you for being one of the original
” mavericks “.

You started one hell of an airline, that
I would love dearly to work for, if they
were in my city.

A question.

Was it one of the ” Raquel Welch ” look-
alike ads ?
